Asian Bloggers & Social Media 2010 Conference Day 2

The first day of the Asian Bloggers & Social Media 2010 Conference was amazing, the second day was even better. Most of the speakers were bloggers themselves so they managed to impress me with alot of details on blogging and social media.

The 2nd day started with a speech from Eddie Law, who spoke on areas of legal awareness that bloggers have to know. He Analyses the current provision in law in relation to blogging practices. He mentioned that bloggers should in a way censor what they say and cause no harm to anyone. Bloggers should in a way be honest and fair when blogging and that they must always be accountable on what they mentioned.  According to Eddie Law, there are 2 kinds of action that can be taken against bloggers, namely the Civil Action and the Criminal Action. This branches down to Defamation, Privacy law, Detention under the ISA, communication & multimedia Act and many more. Eddie Law can be accessed at LawEddie [dot] com.

The next session was by Lim Fahima from Virtual Consulting, Indonesia who spoke on managing online reputation of your brand. She touched topics such as Monitoring online conversation and engaging with customers to promote yourself in the best channel, responding to online review selectively and put yourself in a positive light and advertising online to increase traffic and gather customer information.

Oliver “Blogie” Robillo who is a WordPress Evangelist from the Phillipines gave us some insight of how to use and improve your blog using this blogging tool, WordPress. CyberSecurity Malaysia also gave us an insight of the steps they are taking in order to control and secure the internet world. He said that we should be in control on what we register for online, as well as to not simply register yourself online.

2 famous bloggers also gave their views that day. Niki Cheong who is a journalist for Star Publications spoke about the difference between a Journalist and a Blogger. After that, Kenny Sia of KennySia[dot]com gave a speech on how to work with social media influencers. He highlighted on the things that we should consider before engaging or even approaching an influencer. He is a natural comedian and was quite witty to hear him present.

The closing was done with a Panel Discussion that included Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir.

I hope to join the Asian Bloggers & Social Media Conference next year that is scheduled for May 2011.

Asian Bloggers & Social Media 2010 Conference

Wow, I was amazed when the company that I’m working with Holiday Villa Hotels & Resorts, decided to send me to the Asian Bloggers & Social Media 2010 Conference which was hosted at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel. Weeks ago, I set up their own blog site which can be accessed here, Holiday Villa Blog, and started uploading a few articles on places where their hotels are located.

This event was organized by My Events, you can add yourself and follow them on their facebook page.

My favourite speech of the day was by Mr Tony Fernandes of AirAsia Malaysia. He was spontaneous and witty. Very informative and he really had to struggle to come up in life. Today eventhough he is damn famous, he is very down to earth. Those working under him must really have alot of fun at work.

The speech by Tun Mahathir was also very informative, only that he was talking alot towards politics, which is not my cup of tea. Other than that, he touched topics of Freedom of speech, which Malaysian can only gain through their own blogs because Media will surely, even though not many know this, tell the audience what they want them to hear. He also warned that even though there is freedom of speech, we will still have to be responsible on what we say, especially when condemning someone as they might sue you in return.

Two famous bloggers who are top here in Malaysia also gave their reviews on blogging. First was Ahmad Nazuwan from BeautifulNara.com whose blog speaks about the gossips of celebrity in Malaysia. He basically writes in Malay and I’m hoping that one day, he would write about me in his famous blog, BeautifulNara.com. Also gave her speech was Joyce Wong who writes about her lifestyle and living in Malaysia. She has written alot of post on advertisers in Malaysia and her blog can be accessed at KinkyBlueFairy.net.

Also there was Paul Moss of Media Prima Berhad Malaysia. He gave an insight on online television and that they will be launching a new online experience on the 6th of August 2010, make sure you catch that.

Other than that, Berjaya Times Square Hotel hosted a great lunch, everything was tasty. Looking forward to tomorrows event which will feature Kenny Sia of KennySia.com and Niki Cheong of NikiCheong.com, who are also famous bloggers in Malaysia.

Malaysia International Toys Fair 2010

Last sunday I went for the Malaysia International Toys Fair 2010 as promised. But I was shocked to see how bad it was. First of all there was an entry charge of RM3. I know it’s fairly cheap, but aren’t fairs free in the first place? Matta fair is free, Pikom PC Fair is free, so why should they charge for this? (a friend just corrected me that they do charge for the Matta Fair, not too sure how much)

I expected the MITF 2010 fair to be alot bigger that what it was. It took us only 10 - 15 minutes to cover the whole place. This is mentioned as a TOY fair, but I did not actually see that many toys. I didnt not see any Legos, there were some interesting figure toys, but not that many. Most of the booth featured online games, or computer games. Aren’t they suppose to be located in another separate fair instead in this Toy Fair?

Anyways, I was disappointed, hopefully they do better for the Malaysia Internation Toys Fair next year. Below are the photos that I took during the event.

KLCC View from my Office

Woohooo, one of the best thing about working at Kuala Lumpur city center is that you get great view of our Pertronas Twin Tower, the KLCC. I work at Megan Avenue II that is on Jalan Yap Kwan Seng. We are on the 16th floor, so the view from up here is marvellous. Some surrounding buildings are still under construction, she one end of KL looks messy. I’ll just let the photos speak.

Malaysia International Toys Fair KL

Malaysia International Toys Fair KL

For your info peeps, I still do have my toys that I used to play when I was a kid. I still have my train set, transformers toys, lego sets, electronic toys, control cars and many more. When I was about to throw them away, my mum always tells me to keep them because they are in still good condition and that sooner or later when I have my own childred, I can give it to them to play with them toys.

The thing about 21st century children is that they no more value toys like that anymore. Their Idea of playing games are of the online sort. So if you guys are going there for the Malaysia Internation Toys Fair, make sure you say Hi when you see me. Have a great weekend.
