Antique Shop Jonker Street Malacca

During our Malacca trip early December 2010, we visited many Antique shops, but one in particular caught my eyes. Simple name Antique Shop and they are located at the center of Jonker Street.

Melaka is the mecca for antique lovers, souvenir hunters and treasure enthusiasts. These shops are plentiful and there are many antiques to chose from. There have been reports of ‘false’ antiques, so be aware of this when purchasing your chosen pieces.

You’ll find practically anything that it at least a few hundred years old here. Bicycle, pots, plates, bowls, doors, cupboards, fans, bottles, chests, board games and so many many more. This is where rubbish or junks can be worth alot. I was surprised at the prices these junks were going for. RM2,000 for a bowl set, RM4,000 for a door. Ridiculous and yet interesting at the same time.

You can find rare Chinese porcelain from the Sung, Ming or Ching dynasties, as well as 17th-century Dutch and 18th-century Japanese porcelain, Indian brassware, Chinese brass irons and intricately carved Chinese rosewood furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl can also be found.

First thing I did that night when I reach home was to recall whether I still kept any junks that could be of value. Unfortunately, mostly were already thrown away.
