Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Resort

On the 2nd day of our Roadtrip to Perak and Pahang, we decided to stay at Genting Highlands (instead of the initial plan of staying at Bukit Tinggi Berjaya Hills Resort).

We managed to reach the peak at around 11.30pm that sunday (11th April 2010). After discussing where would be the best place to stay, went to First World Hotel to try to Walk In. When we got there, all rooms were fully booked. There was some chinese event going on and alot of foreigners were staying at Genting Highlands. After checking with the receptionist, we found out that the only available property was Awana Genting Highlands Golf & Country Resort. The only available room was the Apartment which was going at RM248. We added an extra bed which cost RM60 (This includes breakfast).

This room was suppose to come with a King size bed, but instead it had 2 single beds put together. When I enquired at the reception as we checked out, the person in charge mentioned that this was how it is done, a king size bed means 2 single beds put together. This is ridiculous, never in the history of English, or even all the hotels I’ve been to, set 2 single beds as a king bed. It’s quite uncomfortable to sleep on with a gap in the middle. Anyway, we accept the fact that that was their way of setting things and carried on.

Next problem was when the toilet got stuck, knowing that it was already late, we decided to call the maintenance in the morning to fix it. But when we contacted them in the morning, they started passing the call to a few people. After making that complaint, no one bothered to come into our room to check the blocked toilet.

That was not all, the shower started to clog up too. Instead of the water running down the water hole, it started to flood the whole area and leak out to our room. This was really annoying, there was roughly 4 inches of water in the shower, disgusting. We also made complaints about this, but no one attended to it.

To top things up, the towel that we got had some pink stains on them. One even had brown stains that I could only guess that it had something to do with shit. Thank god I remembered to bring my own towel that night.

Awana Genting Highlands is quite a beautiful place to be. They have a superb golf course, their swimming pools are good, restaurant serves good food. I remember seeing also a Korean and Japanese restaurant. They had multiple banquet and event halls. But with all that, they could even maintain a good apartment room.

I was quite disappointed when I approached the person at the counter when checking out, he sort of didn’t give a damn what we went through. He was more concerned on who we spoke to on the phone about the complaints regarding the toilet and shower area. I maybe complaining about my stay there, but dont you think that when we pay for something, especially during the peak period, we expect something good in return?

Anyway, I dont think me or any of my friends would be going to Awana Genting Highlands to stay anymore. Probably the next time we would either stay at the peak, or even Hotel Seri Malaysia.

OMG!!! You should make a scene there and ask them to give you another free nite’s stay!

They were not interested to bargain at all after we complained. I told them specifically that I took photos, but they weren’t bothered. Anyway, hope they Improve their services. One more thing, being a hotel in Genting where many International tourist reside, alot of their staff was having difficulty in conversing in English. Thanks for the comment Charmine :)

er… even IF they do give thristhan another night free, do you think he’ll want to stay? harharhar!

by the way, hey robin! it’s 27.7 degrees and it’s not even room temperature!! quit that body-hugging-coz-it’s-cold pose! LOL!

i’ve never stayed in awana before.. whenever i go up to genting, i’ll try to get one at the top.. usually first world.. =)

  6. Thristhan says:

Yeah Kenwooi, I usually go right to the top too. They were all fully booked that night :( .

Andrew: Hahaha, robin’s a poser. Should check out the other photos we took, Will upload on facebook soon :)

  8. Robin says:

Yeah, Awana only had one really good point… The breakfast… tasty, lots of choice and a good view! But without such good company, would have sucked!

If they offered another free stay there (which they didnt)… i wouldnt say no because i’m not that fussy. But my advice for future visitors here are as follows:

    1) Learn malay to communicate with international staff :P
    2) Bring along your own towel
    3) Bring a plastic bag for your shit… (the toilets useless) but just be careful when bringing it down the hill after your stay, in case someone robs you of your “winnings/leavings” ;-) LOL

Other than that, just make sure you tune into Blue fm… 69.0 and let the good times roll!

Andrew: LOL… look, i look like a snowman… its so cold lah :P

Hahahaha, good one Robin, now to send the link to the Awana Genting Highlands management and see what they have to comment about this. Anyone got their contact?

And it’s funny that they do post visitors blogs on their website, but they only seem to choose all the positive feedbacks. Their blog link as follows.

thristhan has mentioned all my comments

Unfortunately genting is a very last minute suggestion so in future if all hotel is fully book and awana is the only option, i’d rather sleep in the car with my own blanket

very disappointed with this ‘shitty suite’

  11. webmaster says:

Yes Hweeli, I agree with you. Infact I think we did see a few bunch of people sleeping it their cars on the way down.

Hmm… it never used to be such 7 years ago. I still remember during my college days, I used to be a regular guest every 3 months once to stay and participate with theme park events. I think things may have changed now in Awana. Awana used to be damn freaking good for it’s services and accommodation. But as years goes on Malaysia is becoming another lip service country with much publicized GREAT services but in fact we are dwelling in the drain. In line of it P.M Najib has encouraged all the hotels to increase the price hotels rates. Without realising that if he turned out be a ordinary guest, he would receive the same treatment as you guys received. Unless he comes with rank of PM and notification a week before, his suite as well which was stinking will be splendid and toilet bowl where can be used for hand wash as well……if we pay for the price, we do expect the pay comes with service. Nobody is paying your for free…..

Thiru, very informative comment. Best comment so far :) Thanks dude.

All i can say – the place sucks. No second thoughts of going there again unless i check out the shower room FIRST.

No matter how good the scenery is and how good the food is, it’s just like the same concept as having a fantastic lunch in a chicken farm!
