Batu Caves, Malaysia

Last weekend we decided to do something crazy and entertaining. So we decided to climb up Batu Caves. Initially my brother convince me that I will not be able to make it all the way up without getting a leg cramp. But to my surprise, or rather his suprize i made it all the way up easily. There were only 272 stairs. But I did sweat alot for sure.

So what is so great about batu caves, what is it all about. According to wikipedia:

Batu Caves is a limestone  hill, which has a series of caves and cave temples, located in Gombak district, 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) north of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It takes its name from the Sungai Batu or Batu River, which flows past the hill. Batu Caves is also the name of the nearby village.

The cave is one of the most popular Hindu shrines outside India, dedicated to Lord Murugan. It is the focal point of Hindu festival of Thaipusam in Malaysia.

The cave is unique and has a nice view if you look upwards. There are also alot of restaurant around that area who serve delicious Indian Cuisine. Most of them only serve vegeration food. Inside the cave has a few Indian temple where prayers are done. I don’t think they charge but donations are always welcomed.

You will also see an entrance to the Dark Cave of Batu Caves, there is an entrance fees of RM20 per person and it’s only available at certain time of the year. Do google it for more details.

Getting there is easy. We took the MRR1 to Batu Caves. There is also a KTM (Train) service to Batu Caves which stops only a few meters walk away. It would be adviseable to user the train especially on festive season such as Thaipusam.

Below are the photos that we captured during our visit to Batu Caves, Malaysia.
