Kedai Makanan Nam Heong Restaurant Ipoh, Perak
If you happen to stop by Ipoh, which is a famous town in Perak Malaysia, you’ll have to drop by this restaurant simply named Nam Heong for breakfast because they serve a great variety of chinese food. This place is non-halal and is famous for the Old Town White Coffee. During our trip to Cameron Highlands, we stopped by Kedai Makanan Nam Heong for a quick meal.
We ended ordering more that we wanted to because the food there is marvellous. There was a stall selling Hakka mee fish ball noodle, a frying corner where you can get freshly cooked Kuey Teow, lobak (fried items eaten with a brown sauce), loh mai kai (steamed glutinous rice with chicken), Penang Hokkien Mee (better known as Prawn Mee) and a stall selling pastries with chicken. The dishes here are quite cheap when compared to Kuala Lumpur and they range between RM3 to RM5 per meal.
Ipoh is the capital of the state of Perak and nearly 70% of them there are Chinese, which explains why most of the stalls there offers non-halal food. Ipoh is also known as City of Millionaires. The name Ipoh is derived from a local tree, Pohon Epu or now more commonly known as Pokok Ipoh. The sap of this plant is poisonous and was used by Orang Asli (Indigenous Peoples in Malay) to coat the tips of the darts of their blowpipes for hunting purposes.

i love having lunch at this place, especially when i go back to ipoh.. love the hakka mee but it’s not featured here
Ipoh food is certainly very delicious. Just been there on New year
The roasted pork and prawn noodles are simply marvellous. Its so strange that I have been to Ipoh a number of times but have not explored the food here. Its also the town my mum and relatives originated, and yes, I still have plenty of relatives staying in Ipoh. Maybe the next time I hit here, I should give a try to the food found in Ipoh.
