Malaysia Airlines MAS A380 The Big Flight Joyride
2 months ago I received a call from Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide and mentioned that I was the selected 10 bloggers by Malaysian Airlines to create a unique video to show off my talent. To my surprise, I was the selected top 4 bloggers who won this contest and this gave me a change to be the first few to board Malaysia Airlines A380 The Big Flight on the 5th June 2012.
A380 is the biggest airline available to date. Prior to the A380, Malaysia Airlines biggest airline was the Boeing 747. As one of the winning bloggers, I was allowed to bring along a guest to join me on this test run. Who better than my sister.
Even though this was not considered an actual inaugural flight, but I was really lucky to be one of the first people to have flown on this brand new airplane.
The service that Malaysian Airlines and their Social Media Team gave us that day was amazing. We were allocated free parking services and shuttle buses to the main terminal. From start till the end everything was super smooth. As we arrived at KLIA, we spotted a few famous blogger faces including Wilson from PlacesandFoods.com and Azuan Zahdi from Azuanzahdi.com.
We were then taken to Gate C17. There we were served with some finger food and drinks. There were tons of people there including the press and other social media enthuist. We were entertained by a mentalist named David Lai. The 8 winners of The Big Flight competition were also there along with their 3 guest each. Some of them demonstrated on their talent that won them an entry to this flight. The top 4 bloggers who also created their own unique videos were also present. You may view my video at Thristhan YouTube page.
To my surprise, Malaysia’s former Prime Minister, Tun Mahathir was also joining us for this first flight on the MAS Airbus A380. During the flight, he even came down to meet with all the press and social media people. I managed to shake his hands but could not slip in a photograph with him.
The MAS A30 took off at KLIA International Airport, flew all the way Langkawi Island, went around the Island at about 5000 feet, which gave us a fantastic view of the hotels and resorts that were around that area. Also flew low around Penang Island and returned back to KLIA. The flight took about 2 and a half hours. After landing at KLIA, the MAS A380 did a second take off and this time we cruised around Kuala Lumpur and Subang Jaya area at only 3000 feet. This gave us a fantastic view of the Kuala Lumpur Skyline including the famous Petronas Twin Towers.
Now to give you some information about Malaysia Airlines all new MAS Airbus A380. Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines, the aircraft features a premium three-class layout, with accommodation for a total of 494 passengers. Features include fully flat beds in First and Business Class, plus new wider seats in Economy. The seats was quite wide that it fitted me comfortably. All seats in all classes comes with the latest individual in-flight entertainment systems, USB ports and satellite telephone facilities.
The A380 is fuel-efficient and eco-friendly reducing carbon emissions. the MAS A380 is capable of flying 15,300 kilometres which enables non-stop flights with a full load from Kuala Lumpur to any destinations in Europe and one-stop service to major destinations in the US. The official first commercial debut is set for July 1 2012 from KL to London with 3 flights weekly. We also heard that there are only a few more seats left for the first London flight on the 1st July 2012, so grab your seats quick.
