Photo Of The Day: Coconut Trees at Cherating
Cherating has been on of the places where I regularly visit because of my job. I’m the Management Information Technology executive for Holiday Villa and since we have a hotel in Cherating, I’m sent there at least once every year for the computer audits.
This photo of the day was taken as I was walking around the gardens at Cherating Holiday Villa. What happens here at least once every month is a family that consist of a Father, Mother and a Son would come to this garden to harvest all the coconuts around this area. And how do they climb up this tree you ask me? Manually, like a monkey. I’m serious. I was so amazed at how the Son can easily climb up this tree within minutes. Halfway up the Coconut tree, he would stop for a while for a breather.
The Dad no longer climbs the tree as his knee was badly injured, he did teach his son how to do it now. On the way up, the Son would take along with him a rope, which he would tie the bunch of coconuts to and slide it down slowly so that the fruits would not be damaged. The hotel is kindly enough to let them have the coconuts for their own living. As you see in the photo below, do notice the green coconuts that are at the base of the coconut trees.

have to be careful where you stand
