Restoran Talipon Grill and Steamboat Buffet, Jalan Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur

I love it when the food at a particular restaurant taste so much better than what people would expect. Restaurant Talipon on Jalan Kuchai Lama is one of the places. As a first glance, you’ll be wondering how such a disgusting looking place with probably a grade B or C restaurant could bring in such a crowd, it has all to do with the way they marinate the grilled and steamboat items. Food here is non-halal.

Restaurant Talipon have been one of the place that we visit quite often because they offer a great variety of steamboat and grilled items. Other steamboat places like the Flaming Steamboat in Sunway or the Stadium Negara Steamboat on Jalan Yap Kwan Seng is no where compared to Restaurant Talipon. If you’re a good eater like myself, the RM23.80 per adult and RM13.00 per child, would not be an issue for you at all because the amount of meat and delicacies you’ll be whacking is far above that. They are open for dinner from 6pm till late, probably till 1am depending on the crowd. You cannot make reservations so do go there early because they are always packed.

I would really like to advice that you only take what you can eat since it’s a buffet style. You can always walk up to the buffet table and refill if required. To start with, they offer seafood stuffs like crabs, clamps, prawn, squids, fish that is marinated in a few ways and fish balls. Lamb chops, beef in black pepper sauce, chicken in spicy sauce, sweet sour meat and many more. As for the grill menu, you get to try their pork slices, sausages, all sort of vegetables, all sorts of noodles, mushrooms. There is a corner for freshly cut fruits, ice cream and even a Ice Kacang machine. Food are refilled often, so do not worry about it finishing.

Getting there is fairly easy because Restoran Talipon is located at Old Klang Road. Drive pass Pearl Point (on your right) until you reach the next traffic light. Turn right, drive on and the road goes slightly uphill. You will see Restoran Talipon on your left, just before a traffic light junction. They also have a branch at Puchong and Petaling Jaya, but I’m not too sure whether they taste and charge the same as the Restaurant Talipon at Jalan Kuchai Lama.

oh they have upgraded the proper plates fork and spoon. I was there many years ago. Didnt like it coz they gave us those styro foam plates, plastic fork and spoon and the take away type of bamboo choptick. Hmmm price looks good. Didnt increase much. Last time i think it was RM16 or rm18…that was back in 1993 la

Hi Thristhan. Been there only once, many years ago. The food is fresh and a lot of variety, worth the price if one has a good appetite. My only complaint is that at the end of it, one would come out smelling of oil and grill. Because of that, am not too keen on steamboat with grilling together.

The one at Yap Kwan Seng is pretty good. The chicken wings there are excellent.

Not being biased or anything but I think non-halal steamboat normally comes out tasting better. No?
